Daily Music Dose: Porcelain and the Tramps

Having been introduced to this band on Buzznet earlier December last year. Immediately I was drawn in, my very first industrial genre band. Not only the addictive voice of Alaina Beaton a.k.a. Porcelain, but the powerful and thought influencing lyrics. I marvel at the meaning depth of her lyrics - so simple and to the point, yet so powerful, and clawing with zeal.

Spending time on the internet, searching for more information and looking for albums, I discovered that Alaina is as unique as her voice. Porcelain and the Tramps can be found on the likes of YouTube, videos made by dedicated fans. Dubbed as an "Internet Superstar", not only for her songs but for style too - many pictures portray her with wild hair colours, and her set style, along with a captured wildness at heart. And I believe this is suggested in her music.

For the first part of this year, news of the band's movements have been somewhat quiet, in fact, still to release an album. Much news is reliant on dedicated fans, and found news that Alaina co-wrote the lyrics to Ashley Tisdale's "How Do You Love Someone?" which was released on her album June this year. Ideally, and hopefully I will get to hear a version sung by Porcelain and the Tramps. And according to an online fan site, having been signed by Virgin, August saw the band "being back on track" to release an album. So we shall excitedly sit on our hands for confirmation.

I love ALL her songs - those I have heard - and it is difficult to say which ones are my favourite, as the songs seem to alternate. So I will go with the majority of our community:

Daily Music Dose: Seether

Being South African myself, in my teens I grew up with the familiar sounds of Saron Gas (Seether). A somewhat laid back grunge/rock group, after changing their name to Seether at their release of their second album, Disclaimer, really put them on the musical map. A definite foot in the door, was also contributed by their astounding, yet slight change to their style, was the song "Broken" with Amy Lee of Evanescence.

In my experience, both the lyrics and the music hit an emotional cord - being able to associate past experiences close to home. The rock-like grunge sounds hit that "empty" space within one's self.Listening to "Broken" only confirmed my interest in the group and wanted to hear more.

The song "Sold Me", made me a proud South African, as the band defined their international status. This song was featured on a soundtrack of "The Punisher", identifying Seether in Australia, the UK, and USA. The new claimed fame saw Seether with another album "Karma and Effect". This album was one that I saw a shift of style, personally and at first, I wasn't too keen, but maintaining my fanatical passion, the album grew on me - how could I have doubted them?

Seether has had its ups and downs, but the past 2 years have seen them back on their feet, touring with the likes of Nickelback (Dark Horse tour), as well as, "one-off" shows for the US troops. Although 2009 had been dedicated to writing and recording a follow up to their "Finding Beauty in Negative Spaces". This album is a MUST buy.
One of Seether's new songs titled "No Shelter" (NCIS Official TV Soundtrack, - a tv programme I watch with enthuasism) and also, Wham's "Careless Whisper", although both heard, is a must to my collection.

To chose my top 3 Seether songs:

1) Broken (with) Amy Lee
2) Gasoline
3) 69 Tea

Careless Whisper
No Shelter
